Our USRA STEMaction Center is a new hub for STEM activities in the Baltimore-Washington corridor. The Center features full-scale practice facilities for FIRST teams, including FIRST Robotics Competition, FIRST Tech Challenge and FIRST LEGO League fields.
The USRA STEMaction Center is open for FIRST teams to practice or work with each other on Wednesdays from 4-8pm. We will add other dates/times over the course of the season (see calendar). Please complete this Reservation form to request use of the facility during our open times or on other dates. While you can walk in during our open times, we cannot guarantee access to the practice fields unless your team has a reservation.
Any FIRST team using the facility must be accompanied by at least one adult team mentor for every 4 students attending. The adult team mentors must have passed FIRST's Youth Protection Screening and must agree to a facility-use waiver on behalf of their team.
The 5th annual Howard County STEM Festival will return to Howard Community College on Sunday, June 4, 2017 from 1-5pm.
The Festival is free and open to the public. There will be more than 70 great exhibits and presenters, including STEMaction with local FIRST robotics teams.
STEMaction, Inc. is excited to announce the inaugural Maryland Tech Invitational. The goal of the Maryland Tech Invitational (MTI) is to bring together FIRST Tech Challenge teams from the region, nation and around the world who have demonstrated excellence this season for a high quality competitive tournament. Invitations will be earned through achievement in the FTC robot game during the 2016-2017 "Velocity Vortex" season.
The MTI will take place Saturday-Sunday, June 24-25, at the Johns Hopkins Applied Physics Laboratory in Laurel, MD.
Up to 36 FTC teams will compete at the MTI over two days. The Winning Alliance and Finalist Alliance will be given cash value awards directed to their teams’ school or non-profit to support continued participation in the FIRST Tech Challenge program.
Application deadline is April 16, 2017.

STEMaction is pleased to be Founding Partner of the Maryland STEM Festival. This annual event showcases great science, technology, engineering and mathematics activities throughout the state. Consisting of hundreds of independently produced events, the Maryland STEM Festival makes science accessible, interactive and fun, while highlighting the impact of STEM in all our lives. The 2017 Maryland STEM Festival will be Oct. 31 - Nov. 12.
FIRST LEGO League Junior Expos in Maryland are scheduled from December - April. See the full list of FLL Jr. Expos here. FLL Jr. is for teams of 6-10 year-olds, working together to research topics on a theme and build LEGO models to illustrate their work. This year's theme is "Creature Craze" about animals and their habitats. You can meet the teams and learn about their projects at FLL Jr. Expos. They're all free and open to the public, and great fun.

FIRST and UMBC are running 19 FIRST LEGO League Qualifier Tournaments throughout Maryland on weekends from Dec. 3 - Feb. 4. FIRST LEGO League teams (age 9-14) compete for the right to advance to the Maryland FLL Championship on Feb. 25, 2017.

FIRST and STEMaction are running 8 FIRST Tech Challenge Qualifier Tournaments throughout Maryland in December - February. FIRST Tech Challenge teams (ages 12-18) compete for the right to advance to the Maryland FTC Championship on Feb. 12, 2017.

FIRST Robotics Competition events in the Maryland, DC and Virginia region are part of the FIRST Chesapeake District. Seven local district events, including three in Maryland, will take place in March. Top teams will advance to the FIRST Chesapeake District Championship in April in Richmond, VA to compete for the right to move on to the FIRST Championships in St. Louis in April.
